Would-be Samaritan sentenced in molestation case

jailbars prison bars cell

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — A Bridgeport man who acted as a would-be good Samaritan has gotten three years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting children.

The Connecticut Post reports 48-year-old Denroy Sinclair was sentenced Friday. Prosecutors say Sinclair, a Jamaican citizen, took in a mother, her young son and daughter in 2012 after their electricity was cut off.

Sinclair watched them while the woman was at work. He’s accused of tying the boy’s hands with a belt and molesting him. Prosecutors say he started molesting his older sister until she locked herself in the bathroom.

Sinclair told the judge he doesn’t agree with all the allegations but agreed to a plea bargain on charges of risk of injury to children and fourth-degree sexual assault to spare the children a trial.
