DARIEN, Conn. (WTNH)– A Chicago man who acted as a magazine solicitor was arrested Friday for burglarizing homes in Darien.
Police say on Friday around 3:30 p.m., they responded to 850 Hollow Tree Ridge Road where a woman reported a burglary. She told police she was working in her yard and walked into her garage to find the interior door leading to the house wide open. She was then startled by a man who was crouched down in front of her car that was parked in the garage. The man was holding a bag of dishrags that she had in her garage.
When she confronted the man, he told her he was selling magazines. She ordered him out of her garage and called police. Later, the woman noticed that her Apple computer from the upstairs den had been disconnected, removed and placed just inside the open garage door downstairs. The victim described the suspect to police as a 5’6″ tall, black male, wearing a white shirt, khaki pants and a tie and that he was last seen walking north on Hollow Tree Ridge Road.
When police were on the way to the area, they received another complaint, this time from 860 Hollow Tree Ridge Road. They reported that an iPod had just been stolen from the home and gave a similar description of the suspect seen walking away from the area. The iPod was found on a table just inside the unlocked door to the home. While the residents were inside, they were unaware that the suspect had entered the home.
Officers then established a perimeter to search for the suspect. The suspect was later located walking along the roadway on Hoyt Street. He was identified as 21-year-old Stanley Bradford. Officers said he was out of breath and visibly shaken. There were various electronic devices and property from both residents found in his possession and he was charged in the burglaries.
