Police say a 54-year-old man was traveling east on Evergreen Avenue around 4:30 p.m. when he saw a large turtle crossing the roadway. He stopped his car and attempted to move the turtle from the street, when he was attacked by a roaming dog.

The Good Samaritan suffered serious bite wounds to the leg and forearm area. He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital by ambulance.
