Man attacked by dog while rescuing turtle

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH)– A Hamden man suffered serious wounds after being bit by a roaming dog while rescuing a turtle from the road last Tuesday.

Police say a 54-year-old man was traveling east on Evergreen Avenue around 4:30 p.m. when he saw a large turtle crossing the roadway. He stopped his car and attempted to move the turtle from the street, when he was attacked by a roaming dog.

The Good Samaritan suffered serious bite wounds to the leg and forearm area. He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital by ambulance.

Hamden Animal Control is attempting to identify the dog. It is described as a black-colored, long haired Labrador who was wearing a collar. Anyone with information is asked to call animal control at (203) 230-4075.
