HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Hartford woman is arrested for allegedly leaving her 4-year-old child overnight Saturday.
Ronisha Woodard, 24, of 127b Enfield street, was arrested Saturday after police say the little girl was found wandering alone by neighbors.
According to police, it’s not the first time Woodard has left the girl alone, but this time neighbors say it was so she could party. “I heard that she left the baby in the house to go to the club, that’s what I heard,” said Mariah Phinisee.
According to neighbors the child was hungry and flagging down cars for food. “She was seeking to get something to eat from what I understand,” said Dorothy White. While Woodard was allegedly out on town, leaving the child to fend for herself, according to police she was taking a huge risk, something other mothers in area say they wouldn’t do.
“If you need to go somewhere, find an adequate babysitter never leave your child alone,” said Phinisee. “That is one thing you don’t do. You don’t leave them in the house absolutely alone especially over overnight.” Woodard was charged with felony risk of injury to a minor and a misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment. She will be in court on Aug. 13.
The girl was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center while officers searched for her mother, involving the Special Investigative Division and Major Crimes Division. The state Department of Children and Families was also contacted. When located, Woodard said she was in New Haven and would be returning to Hartford. DCF took custody of the girl, police said.
