Air conditioners and home security

NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — When the weather heats up, the air conditioners come out. But if your window AC is on the first floor, you may want to take steps to keep that from becoming an easy entryway into your home from burglars.

Use these holes to screw an AC unit into your window.

There are some simple things to do that may only take a couple of minutes:

Screw it in place: Look at your AC unit and see if you can screw it directly into the sash. Look for screw holes on the plastic screens that cover the open area of the window to the right and left of your unit. You can also get metal corner brackets and screw the AC into your window frame.

Lock it: Get locks for your windows that prevent them from being moved up or down.

Support it: Buy and install an AC holder. Securely attach it to your house and the AC unit, and any bad guys will have a harder time getting the AC out of the way.

Alarm it: If none of that is enough for your, why not invest in an inexpensive window alarm. That way if some bad guy opens the window, and alarm will go off and hopefully scare him away.
