New London bank robber gets 4 years

NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — The same day that his trial was supposed to begin, a Hartford man accused of robbing a bank in New London cut a plea deal.

Police say 36-year-old Jerry Thompson held up the Citizen’s Bank on Eugene O’Neil Drive back in February 2013. As he ran down the street with the cash, a red dye pack hidden in a stack exploded, sending wads of money flying everywhere.

Thompson pled guilty to second degree robbery and was sentenced to four years behind bars.
