Norwich man dead in 1-car crash

NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — A 27-year-old man died Friday evening from injuries he sustained in a crash earlier in the day on West Thames Street.

Frank Jones, of Spring Street, was pronounced dead at 6:03 p.m., police said.

The crash took place early Friday, and police said they received numerous 911 calls about it. Officers found Jones trapped in his 2005 Mercedes Benz in the 300 block of West Thames Street, near a retaining wall. The car had heavy front end damage, police said.

After firefighters extricated him, he was transported to Backus Hospital, then flown by Life Star to Hartford Hospital, where he died, police said.
