Fillers for Facial Rejuvenation

GUILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Dr. Collins says as we age, we lose fat in our faces. Fillers work by restoring that volume. On a recent visit to her office, Dr. Collins used Juvederm and Voluma.

“These fillers are what you call hydrophilic, which means that they gather your tissue fluid and the water that’s in your body and it smoothes it out and makes it contour — takes any of that sharpness away,” she explained.

Dr. Collins tailors each application to each face. She also uses fillers to smooth out nasolabial folds and contour cheekbones, paying special attention to her work. “Another thing that I’m doing while I’m doing the injection is I’m looking at the volume that I’m using so that I know I’m doing a symmetrical injection,” she said.

Changes are seen immediately, but it takes a couple weeks to get the full results. “Even though it was done 20 minutes ago, I can already see it just looks a bit more fresh and full which is really nice,” said patient Christine Hine.

When it comes to fillers, Dr. Collins says looking natural is key.

“It’s really important to go to somebody who knows what the definition of the beautiful normal is,” she explained. “You don’t want someone going in to put filler in your face just to fill your face up. You want the filler to be put in to restore the anatomic contours that are beautiful.”

For women like Christine, a little help can go a long way.
