Millstone 2 reactor shut down to fix faulty pump

WATERFORD, Conn. (AP) — One of the two reactors at Connecticut’s Millstone nuclear power plant has been shut down because a problem with a water pump.

Plant officials say a water flow problem was detected Saturday affecting a turbine-driven auxiliary pump at the Millstone 2 reactor. They say that reactor was shut down shortly after 2 p.m. after attempts to troubleshoot and fix the problem failed.

The Millstone 3 reactor was not affected by the problem.

It was not clear Monday when Millstone 2 would be back online.
