Woman charged with stealing $50,000 from employer

April Trowell.

Bridgeport, Conn. (WTNH) – A woman working for a kitchen remodeling company is accused of embezzling more than $50,000 from her employer, Hope Kitchen.

Police say April Trowell, 24, was supposed to show customers the showroom, answer phones, and order inventory. But instead, police say she was ordering merchandise and having Hope Kitchen pay for it, but she was taking it, and using it for side jobs.  She also allegedly diverted customers to another company, and told customers that she could get them a price that Hope Kitchen could not beat.

The thefts are said to have happened from February 2013, until just recently.  Trowell was arrested last Friday at work.  Her bond was set at $75,000.
