Ex-officer gets 2 years for having child porn

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A former East Hartford police officer was sentenced to two years in prison for possession of child pornography.

Andrew W. Nielsen, 50, of South Windsor, also received five years of supervised release after his term. Prosecutors said he purchased several DVDs containing child pornography from a foreign company and had them shipped to his residence. He was arrested on Nov. 1, 2012, and pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography on March 25, 2014. He also resigned from his job.

He has been free on bond and under electronic monitoring by the U.S. Probation Office since Nov. 12. He must report to prison on Sept. 8.
