NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Construction work for the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge will close off a section of Forbes Ave./Route 1 in New Haven this weekend, effectively blocking off the Tomlinson Bridge.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation says Forbes Ave. will be closed between Stiles St. on the east side of the river, to East St. on the opposite side. The road will be closed beginning at 1 a.m. Saturday morning through 5 p.m. Sunday night.

In an email alert the DOT said “this work is necessary to facilitate construction of the southbound portion” of the new bridge.

To get around the closure and onto local roads, drivers will have to get on and off I-95. Signs will mark the detours.
