SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) – News 8 is learning more about the death of a young woman in a fire in Southington.
Eric Morelli is charged with first-degree manslaughter after he allegedly started the fatal fire trying to wake up his friend, who was not home at the time. But his friend’s sister, 19-year-old Kristen Milano, was.
The warrant against him was unsealed Friday.
Fire officials say it all started from a firework hurled into a window of the apartment where Milano was sleeping. The Hartford Courant reports after a night of drinking and smoking pot, Morelli went to the home of his friend Jason Milano early that morning of June 22, trying to wake him up so they could get high.
Milano says when no one answered the door he threw fireworks at the bedroom window. He told investigators he noticed one go through an open window and he didn’t know what to do, so he started yelling for his friend, calling out, “Jay.” A fire started and killed the woman.
Milano was questioned later that day and had no idea anyone died in the fire. He told investigators it was a stupid thing to do.
