State Police quickly catch alleged Essex bank robber Saturday

ESSEX, Conn. (WTNH) – A man who allegedly robbed a Bank of America branch on Westbrook Road Saturday morning did not get far, as State Police nabbed him shortly afterward.

Joshua Green, 33, of Bayview Road, Niantic, is charged with first-degree larceny, third-degree robbery and driving without a license.

State police said Green robbed the bank at shortly after 10 a.m. and drove away north on Route 153 in a Subaru station wagon. Troopers from the state police F barracks were dispatched.

“Essex Resident State Trooper TFC David Tretter, who was off-duty at the time, and TFC James Matlock were on patrol in the area of Route 153 in Essex,” state police said. “TFC Matlock located the fleeing suspect vehicle a Subaru station wagon traveling northbound on Route 153 just prior to Route 9. Both troopers successfully stopped the suspect vehicle and took the suspect into custody without further incident.”

Police said they recovered a “large amount of stolen currency” from the car.

Green was held on $200,000 bond for a court appearance in Middletown Superior Court on Aug. 4.
