UPDATE: Anthony Anamasi has been arrested on assault charges.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– A 71-year-old New Haven man shot his 23-year-old neighbor in the head after he told police the victim tried to attack him with a knife Sunday morning.
Authorities tell News 8 it happened in an apartment building just before 8 a.m. on Donna Drive. Police say 23-year-old Leroy Brown was shot in the side of the head by 71-year-old Anthony Anamasi. Police are still working to gather information regarding what may have lead to the gunfire, but authorities add the man who made the 911 call said he had shot man who had tried to attack him with a knife.
Neighbors say it’s a situation that they find very disturbing.
“It’s very very bad, it’s a very bad sign you know,” said Ahmed Enpharrez, a neighbor.
No arrests have yet been made but a spokesperson for the New Haven police department tells News 8 the man who pulled the trigger is cooperating and is being questioned. As for the 23-year-old that was shot, he is at Yale New Haven Hospital receiving treatment. He is listed as being in critical condition.
All those involved are believed to be residents of the complex.
