East Lyme

EAST LYME, Conn. (WTNH)– The lockdown in East Lyme has been lifted after police arrested a man who allegedly stole a car and fled on foot this morning.

The East Lyme Middle School, Lillie B. Haynes School, the community center and library were all previously placed on lockdown due to the summer programs run at those locations. The suspect, who has not been identified, was taken into custody. The charges are also unknown at this time.

Police say the suspect fled on foot in the area of Exit 73 on I-95. The suspect was first seen driving erratically on I-95 north, which initiated state police to perform a traffic stop, police said. The suspect then stopped the car near exit 74 in Niantic and ran.

The suspect is described as a 6 foot tall, white male, with blonde hair and weighing 180 lbs. He was taken back to Troop F in Westbrook to be booked.
