Sister says Stonington senator still hospitalized

State Senator Andrew Maynard

STONINGTON, Conn. (AP) — The sister of a Stonington state senator says her brother is still recuperating at Rhode Island Hospital from a serious fall and is beginning the recovery process.

In a statement released Monday, Denise Mahoney said Sen. Andrew Maynard remains in stable condition after suffering from numerous injuries from the fall, including a head injury. Mahoney said members of the hospital’s medical staff “are confident in a positive recovery and continue to work with Andrew to make that recovery as speedy and safe as possible.”

Police said a neighbor witnessed 52-year-old Maynard fall in the early morning hours of July 21 from a “significant height,” landing on a sidewalk below.

Maynard, a Democrat, is the co-chairman of the General Assembly’s Transportation Committee.
