Vandalism plagues New London neighborhood

NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH)–Several properties along New London’s Ocean Avenue have been vandalized.

The part of the city affected has high walls and gated homes. Some of those walls and fences have the word “TagZ” and an epithet spray painted on them.

Resident Vicki Anderson, who was walking her granddaughter in a stroller along Ocean Avenue said she was saddened by the vandalism. “People have nothing else to do?” she asked.

The tags are on private property. Fences which surround homes and a wall at the Lawrence & Memorial were hit by the vandals sometime overnight on Sunday.

“We walk every day because I babysit for her and this is the first time I saw that. It’s sad,” says Anderson. We asked her, “You’re not happy to see that?” She answered, “No I”m not, it’s very sad.”

At Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, the word “TagZ” is repeated in red ten times along the cement wall. A worker power washed the wall to get rid of the graffiti Monday morning.

Some wonder if this was done by kids who were bored. Damaoris Rivera told News8, “Too much time to do countless…. this isn’t even really good graffiti to be honest with you. I really do love graffiti but this is just vandalism.”

Police are investigating the incidents.
