Two wanted for Bridgeport armed robbery

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH)- Detectives are investigating an armed robbery of a River Street business that occurred Tuesday afternoon.

It happened at East Coast Auto at 14 River St. at about 2 p.m.Police learned that two armed men accosted six employees at the business demanding money. The men escaped with cash taken from the business office and from the car of one of the employees.
During the course of the robbery, a delivery driver pulled into the driveway and saw the suspects running out of the building. The driver stated that one of the suspects attempted to get into his van but he put the vehicle in reverse and backed out onto River Street, where he collided with a minivan traveling south. Neither motorist suffered serious injuries.

The driver of the van stated that he heard a gunshot as the suspect attempted to enter his vehicle. The suspects then fled on foot in the direction of the Pequonnock River. Police set up a perimeter and searched the area on foot and using a police K-9.
The incident remains under investigation by detectives.
