NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — An East Haven man was shot in the right leg and pistol-whipped at a Hess gas station on State Street Thursday, police said,

Police identified the man as Martin Carpentino Jr., who was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.  “He said the incident unfolded at the dead end of Warren Street. Carpintero said he’d been in an altercation with the man who wounded him.”

The assailant was in the vehicle when the shooting took place, and Carpintero put the car in reverse to escape. Then the gunman fired a shot through Carpintero’s windshield, police said. Police did not have a description of the gunman.
