Man charged in New Haven double shooting

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A New Haven man is charged with shooting two people, killing one of them, on Aug. 1.

Errol Godfrey-Hill, 19, of Vernon Street, was charged with murder, first-degree assault and carrying a pistol without a permit. police said Friday. The shooting occurred at Kensington and Chapel streets.

Hill allegedly shot 26-year-old Tyrese Jones of Elm Street, who later died at Yale-New Haven Hospital. The second victim, 26-year-old Troy Mitchell of Blake Street, was shot more than twice and was treated at Yale-New Haven for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The incident occurred at Kensington and Chapel streets.
