Roller coaster riders stranded midair for hours

(WTNH)– Some thrill seekers got a lot more than they bargained for at an amusement park outside of D.C. Sunday afternoon.

Seventeen adults and seven children spent about five hour stranded 75 feet in the air when a roller coaster at a Six Flags amusement park in Maryland got stuck. To make matters worse, the ride was stuck on its side and the hot sun was beating down on those helpless riders.

“I was afraid the thing was going to fall and we were going to die,” said a stranded passenger. “We were just side way so you don’t know if it’s going to give out.”

Firefighters were eventually able to attach straps to each passenger and load them one by one into a ladder bucket. What caused the Joker’s Jinx to malfunction in the first place is still under investigation.
