Assault over stolen cell phone

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH)- Police are investigating after a confrontation over a stolen cell phone lead to an assault.

Police say a woman’s cell phone was stolen from her car while she shopped in a store on East Main Street. They say, the victim’s nephew called the phone, and a male answered, saying he bought the phone from someone, but would give it back for $40.

Police say the victim and her nephew met that man near Park and Shelton Streets. Police say, when the nephew tried to get the phone, the man sprayed them with pepper spray and reached into his waistband, as if he had a gun. Then, the suspect took off in a Mercury Mountaineer.
