Police seek man who carried gun, fought with officer

ANSONIA, Conn. (WTNH) – Police recovered a handgun on Tuesday but are seeking its carrier, who will likely face charges.

Police said Thursday that officers stopped to investigate suspicious activity in the Maple Street plaza at 1:45 p.m. A man was seen hiding an alcoholic beverage and carrying a handgun in his waistband.

The man entered a parked car and the officer approached to investigate, leading to a struggle. The man then fled, leaving the gun in the car, police added.

“The suspect is known to police and charges are expected,” police said. The case remains under investigation,police said.
