HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Tom Foley, the Republican nominee for governor, says he and Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy should debate five to seven times before Election Day.

Foley said on WFSB-TV’s “Face the State” on Sunday that he did “very well” in debates against Malloy in 2010 and that he’ll repeat the performance this summer and fall.

Foley, who defeated state Sen. John McKinney in the GOP primary last Tuesday, said voters will lose interest beyond five to seven debates.

He said petitioning candidate Jonathan Pelto, a Democrat, and Joe Visconti, a Republican, should be included in debates if they get on the ballot.

A spokesman for Malloy said the governor has agreed to as many debates as the schedule allows.

The first debate has already been set for Aug. 27 and another tentatively for Sept. 23.
