New Haven police charge 19-year old with January murder

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)–New Haven police have just named the man they say is responsible for a murder back in January. In a news conference on Monday afternoon, police announced that 19-year old Jaquawn Burton will be charged with the killing of 22-year old Kyle Brown-Edwards.

Brown-Edwards was found shot to death in the hallway of the home he shared with his grandmother. After months of praying for justice, his aunt told News 8 on Monday afternoon that her family was grateful for the arrest.

“This has been a very trying time, to say the least, but through it all we learned patience and kept our faith in God and the New Haven police department,” said aunt Ruthie Barnett.

No word on a motive for the shooting has been announced. Police said that Burton is already behind bars for a separate crime.
