EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Police are asking for the public’s help in nabbing people illegally driving ATVs.

“Since the beginning of 2014, East Haven Police Department has recorded approximately 230 calls for service regarding illegal ATV activity on public roads or public property within the Town of East Haven. East Haven has had an ongoing problem with ATVs, operating recklessly on our roadways, causing dangerous situations for legal motor vehicle traffic. Some of these ATV riders have even gone so far as to harass motorists who are traveling the roadways,” police said.

“This year, nearly 10 offenders were arrested and charged with crimes associated with this illegal activity. Numerous dirt bikes and quads have been seized by the East Haven Police Department. Recently, the court awarded one of these vehicles to the Department following a hearing,” police added.

Police say they continue to vigorously investigate illegal vehicle crimes, and have ongoing investigations and arrest warrants pending for some riders.

Any information regarding illegal ATV activity can be reported to the Department at 203-468-3820. Members of the public can remain anonymous when providing information, police said.
