GREENWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — Greenwich police are working with Port Chester, N.Y., police to charge 26-year-old New York resident Johanny Chavez on possible assault and abduction charges.
According to Port Chester police, Chavez was arrested on Monday, after police say he kidnapped his 19-year-old girlfriend from Greenwich and took her to New York.
Police in New York are charging him with Kidnapping 2nd degree, Rape 1st degree, and Strangulation 2nd degree in connection with an alleged kidnapping and rape that started in Greenwich on Aug. 15.
Greenwich police there say they received a complaint from the 19-year-old resident regarding a domestic violence incident that had taken place on Friday Aug. 15, 2014. The victim had been in a dating relationship with the suspect and they had been arguing via text and phone throughout the day. The victim alleged the suspect appeared at the victims house to continue the argument. The suspect then assaulted and abducted the victim from a private residence in the Riverside section of Greenwich.
Greenwich police have not yet charged Chavez.
