Summer Beauty Tip: Sunburn Rescue

sunburn relief

(WTNH)– You’ve spent a little too much time in the sun and now you’re suffering the consequences, but Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon Beth Collins, M.D., says there are a few tried and true tricks to help ease the discomfort.

First, pop an over-the-counter pain reliever. Ibuprofen and aspirin will reduce inflammation and the pain.

Next, take a cool bath or shower but avoid soaps or oils, which can irritate the skin.

Also try mixing one cup of apple cider vinegar into your bath. Dr. Collins says its antiseptic properties can kill germs and relieve pain.

For more topical relief, apply a cortisone cream to reduce inflammation.

And aloe vera can also sooth a sunburn. Apply gently but Dr. Collins says not to rub it in all the way like you would with a regular lotion. Leaving some aloe vera on top of the skin will help prevent it from drying out.
