Volunteers keep Connecticut Open running

Connecticut open volunteers

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — They work for free and they love it.

Volunteers: the Connecticut Open needs them. This year, some 300 strong are giving their time: driving them, chasing them, seating them.

Gene Walker started volunteering over 20 years ago. She kept coming back. Now she’s the volunteer coordinator.

From ushers, drivers, to ball kids, everyone has their niche.

Whether they’ve been doing it since tennis landed in New Haven 25 years ago or they’re new to the tournament, keeping this week open has become part of their summer plans.
