Two charged in drug deal, $5K in drugs seized

CROMWELL, Conn. (WTNH) — Two people were arrested and police seized drugs with a street value of $5,000 Thursday.

Roshan Patel, 23, of Noch Lane, East Hartford, is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession within 1,500 feet of a school, sale of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a drug factory and possession of drug paraphernalia. Maria Jensen, 48, of Oronoque Trail, Shelton, is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school.

Police said an officer saw money being exchanged in the parking lot of the Super 8 Motel at 1 Industrial Park. Police searched Parel’s car with a State Police K-9 and found a duffel bag with 70.6 grams of marijuana packaged for sale, 70 packages of hash oil, 10 marijuana “cake pops,” 115 containers for drug packaging, butane lighters, two glass pipes, a glass pipe for cooking and more than $10,000 cash. Jensen had five bags of packaged hash oil bought from Patel, police said.

The site is near a daycare center, police added.

Jensen’s bond was set at $7,500, and Patel’s bond was set at $100,000 for appearances in Middletown Superior Court.
