Police: woman left toddler in her car while drinking

BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH) — A 22-year-old mother is accused of leaving her toddler alone in her car for hours while she was drinking late Friday.

Kelsey James, of Skyview Trail, Bristol, is charged with risk of injury to a minor and leaving a child unsupervised in a motor vehicle. Just before midnight, police were called to City Sports, 177 Farmington Ave., on a report of “an intoxicated and incapacitated female sleeping at the bar.” She was taken to Bristol Hospital for treatment, where she asked about her two-year-old daughter at 5:20 a.m.

The toddler was found sleeping inside James’ locked and parked car at City Sports.

James was released on $50,000 bond for a Sept. 2 appearance in Bristol Superior Court.

The child was taken to Bristol Hospital for evaluation and is being held there for representatives of the state Department of Children and Families.
