Driver charged with DUI in fatal New Haven crash

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — New Haven police have arrested a person on a drunken driving charge after an accident that killed a man and injured two other people.

Authorities say 20-year-old Olvin Cruz of New Haven died after being ejected from a car in the crash just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Police say a female passenger in the same car is in critical condition at a hospital and the driver suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police say they initially believed the crash involved only one car, but a witness reported that another vehicle was involved and that it was parked in New Haven. Officers say the driver was still inside the SUV and appeared intoxicated.

Authorities haven’t yet released the names of the driver who was arrested and the three people in the other car.
