Man hit by train in Plainfield

PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Rhode Island man is dead after being struck by a privately owned train in Plainfield.

It happened around 3 p.m. yesterday near Rawson Material and Hopkins Fabrication on Norwich Road.

Police say James A. Hawkins III, 39, of Coventry, Rhode Island was hit by the train which was operating along a privately owned railroad track. The train was leased by Rawson Material and being operated by Donald Hopkins, the owner of Hopkins Fabrication.

The accident is still being investigated.
