Raccoon tests positive for rabies after elderly woman attack


HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH)– The raccoon that attacked an elderly woman in Hamden on Sunday was rabid.

Hamden Animal Control tells News 8 that they got the results Tuesday from the State Public Health Department. The results showed that the raccoon, that got into the 88-year-old woman’s house and attacked her on Sunday, had tested positive for rabies.

They say they’ve notified the victim and her family. She is out of the hospital tonight recovering from her injuries.

The raccoon also went after two officers but investigators say it didn’t come in direct contact with them.
