GROTON, Conn. (WTNH)– In a small community word gets around fast when a neighbor has a run-in with the law, as is the case on Deerwood Drive, where it seems everyone has an opinion about the arrest of one man who lives there.

His name is Jordan Rittenhouse and according to police he somehow hurt his two-month-old baby. What may have happened investigators are not saying at this time but they do tell News 8 that the injuries caused are so severe it’s their belief they’re life threatening.

“As a result of the investigation today they arrested for assault first and risk of injury to a minor,” said Lt. James Bee with the Groton Town Police Department.

Rittenhouse is 24-years-old and News 8 has learned he is a seaman with the Navy and is currently enrolled in the Naval Submarine School. Officials with the sub base say the accused enlisted in the Navy in 2013 in North Carolina and has been living on base in Connecticut since 2014

The infant is currently being treated at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital and a couple that lives directly next door claims they’ve recently seen the child.

“The baby is fine we visited him yesterday, baby is recovering great, Liam is in happy spirits, mom is there with him,” said the neighbor.

Rittenhouse is being held on $300,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in front of a judge Friday.
