Fifty-three year-old Gwendolyn Buskie was killed in the crash, Mercer who was in the passenger seat, was seriously injured. Police say their car was hit by a tractor-trailer and then pushed into the back of another big rig. Family members say the two women were extremely close and had known each other since childhood and that Gwen was driving Vera to Bridgeport Hospital for a c-section at the time of the accident.

Mercer was rushed to Yale-New Haven hospital where family members say 7 pound, four ounce Cameran Faith was delivered by an emergency c-section. Owens says her sister remains in very serious condition.

“Her brain keeps swelling. They’re going to keep her sedated for a couple of days and they’re going to bring her to and ask her some questions to see what she knows and what she don’t know,” said Owens.

And neighbors have nothing but great things to say about Mercer, who has lived in this complex for the past couple of years with her mother and 11-year-old son Christian.

“Very pleasant, helpful, thoughtful person and a caring person,” said Pearl Harris, neighbor.

The family tells News 8 that Cameran Faith is a healthy baby. In the meantime, state police say the accident remains under investigation and so far no charges have been filed.
