19-year old Willimantic man arrested for shooting

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WTNH)–Willimantic police have arrested a man who they said to a number of shootings there over the past couple of days. 19-year old Jamie Padilla is accused of shooting a 16-year old in the arm on Tuesday, and police said he may have fired other shots around town through the week.

Padilla is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and first degree reckless endangerment. He’s being held on $150,000 bond and is due in court next week.

Police said the victim was walking with three other teens in an alley between Main Street and Riverside Drive around 4 p.m. Tuesday when a man appeared in an alleyway and fired at them.

The victim was transported to Windham Hospital, then taken to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford. His injuries are said to be non-life threatening.

Police said they don’t believe that the shooting was random.
