NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Religious and labor groups are preparing for the People’s Climate March, a planned demonstration in New York City for climate action.

U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy were expected to appear Tuesday in New Haven with the Connecticut Roundtable on Climate and Jobs to encourage people to participate in the march, scheduled for Sept. 21. It’s scheduled two days before President Barack Obama and other world leaders gather at the United Nations for a climate summit.

Connecticut is expected to have one of the largest labor contingents at the march. Organizers said 10 unions and labor organizations have so far endorsed the event.

State transportation representatives helped broker an arrangement with Metro-North Railroad to offer discounted fares and greater capacity to accommodate Connecticut marchers.
