Enjoying the unofficial end of summer

MYSTIC, Conn. (WTNH)– Today may be Labor Day but there are still a lot of people working the holiday so others may enjoy this unofficial end to the summer season.

At Sea View Snack Bar in Mystic, the cooks are frying up clams and stuffing lobster rolls. Many people are grabbing the summer time treats and heading to other tasty destinations.

Lynn Izzo of Hamden was in downtown Mystic. She tells News 8, “just going up the other end to the arts festival and came down here to check out all the nice little stores down here. Enjoyed the pool.”

It is summer after all and the better than expected weather brought beach-goers to Ocean Beach Park in New London.

Alejandro Ojeda of Bristol was there with his family. The youngster says, “it’s a big holiday. Today is the last beach.” We ask, “The last day at the beach?” He answers, “No.” His mom then corrects him saying, “Yes.”

Not the last day at the beach for Jessica Sanchez as long as it stays hot.

Sanchez who is from Newburgh, NY says, “well I heard it’s supposed to last this whole entire week so we’re looking forward to coming back out again.” We say, “There you go so it doesn’t end for you this labor day?” “No it does not,” she answers.

Many spent the whole holiday weekend along the shoreline. Victoria Spellman and her mom are from Rocky Hill. They made the most of Mystic. Spellman says, “we went out to eat Friday and we… this is our second time down here and we just love it down here.”

Newcomer to the area Sean O’Laughlin shows his west coast family the shoreline sites.

“I’ve been told by a lot of people in Connecticut that the winter’s are pretty tough so we’re trying to enjoy as much as we can before the weather changes absolutely,” said O’Laughlin.

New visitors and new stores – many hoping summer will never end. This is the first summer for Envy and Douglas Paquette Accessories both in downtown Mystic.

“Labor day weekend has been great for us,” said owner Allyson Paquette. We ask, “A lot of people coming in and out?” She answers, “Yeah yeah. It’s fun we meet people from all over the world and they’re all very nice.”

Back at Sea View Snack Bar the season is far from over on this Labor Day. It may stay open as late as the end of November depending on the weather.
