STAMFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Connecticut CEO caught on camera abusing a dog is no longer a CEO.

Stamford-based Centerplate announced Tuesday that Desmond Hague has stepped down.

Hague was caught on a security camera kicking and abusing a dog inside of an elevator. 180,000 people signed a petition demanding that Centerplate give the CEO the boot.

In a statement the company re-iterated that it does not condone or overlook the mistreatment of animals.

“Following an extended review of the incident involving Mr. Hague, I’d like to apologize for the distress that this situation has caused to so many; but also thank our employees, clients and guests who expressed their feelings about this incident,” Centerplate Chairman of the Board Joe O’Donnell said. “Their voices helped us to frame our deliberations during this very unusual and unfortunate set of circumstances.”

Chris Verros has been named acting president and chief executive officer of the company.
