Fundraiser held for West Haven teen who drowned

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– West Haven High School is raising money for the family of the 16-year-old boy who drowned on Labor Day.

The school is helping the family fund raise to lay Alejandro Zitlalpopoca to rest in Mexico and to help care for his baby daughter. They will be collecting monetary donations and gift cards to stores like Buy Buy Baby and Babies R Us.

Checks should be made to to West Haven High School with “Zitlalpopoca Family”  written on the memo line. Donations can be mailed to the school at 1 McDonough Plaza, West Haven, CT 06516.

The school also plans on holding a vigil at Bradley Point around 7 p.m. on Friday. They also may establish a scholarship in Zitlalpopoca’s name.
