WASHINGTON, Conn. (AP) — State police have released the names of a trooper and Woodbury officer who shot at a suspect in a car chase in western Connecticut earlier this week.

Officials say the veteran officers are Trooper Tyler Spence and Woodbury Officer Tim Wright. Police say the officers fired at 31-year-old Tyler Santoro of Southbury on Monday, when Santoro refused to drop a weapon after trying to ram the officers’ cruisers with a stolen sport-utility vehicle during a chase from Woodbury into Washington.

Authorities said Spence also used a stun gun on Santoro as Santoro was injuring himself in the neck with a knife. Police say Santoro remains at Waterbury Hospital under police guard and will be charged after he is discharged.

State police and prosecutors are investigating the series of events.
