NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — In New Haven and elsewhere around the world, people lined up for hours (or even days) to get their hands on the latest iPhone. And they like what they see.

Apple fans stretched out along Broadway in New Haven Friday waiting to get their hands on the new iPhone. Die hard Apple fans set up a makeshift camp site.

“For me it is fun, it’s like camping out and you get to meet new people,” David Taylor said, “and people walk by and laugh at you because they think you are weird for sitting out here so long, and I kind of take some joy in that. But I had my iPads and I am watching baseball games and I’m watching movies and bonding with my friends. It has been a lot of fun for me.”

Wesam Batarfi waited for 72 hours and was number one in line. He says being first in line comes with perks. “When you are number one you can choose the color, the memory, everything.”

Apple fans are excited about the new sleek design. The iPhone 6 comes in three colors; gold, silver and gray. It even has a larger screen than previous models. Some people say that’s a big selling point.

“The bigger screen with the iPhone Plus is the biggest — that’s the plus, the size.” Jeff Palomba said. “It really will help. Everything is much easier to read.”

“It is a bigger screen so in my older age now I can actually watch the screen without squinting,” Taylor said, smiling. “The screen size, I got the iPhone 6 Plus which is bigger, and I got the 128 gigs.”

Taylor and others say the newer technology makes life a little easier.

“It was important for me, for my business, for my personal life, just to have the better phone, better battery life. It’s supposed to have a better camera,” Taylor said.

“My phone is very important to me at work and in my personal life, so I want to have the best,” Palomba said.

Apple announced earlier this week it sold a record four million of the smartphones last Friday, the first day the phones were available for pre-order.
