PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WTNH)- A reported home invasion turns out to be a hoax after police question the caller to 911.

On September 30, 2014 at approximately 8:15 P.M., members of the Plainfield Police Department went to a reported home invasion at 14 Juniper Lane in Moosup. A woman reported that she was home with a 2-year-old child and heard someone breaking into the residence. Plainfield Officers arrived within minutes to find several open doors and a bedroom window smashed.

The officers found the woman and child inside. They were unharmed, but the home had been ransacked.

After police investigated, it turned out to be the caller that had staged the entire break-in, including planting evidence and smashing the window. The case is under investigation but police say they plan to make an arrest.
