In the Kitchen: Competition Style Chili

(WTNH)– Smoke In the valley Beer Guy, Matt Bronson, and Dave Conti, of Red Planet BBQ, talk Smoke In the Valley (SITV) Craft Beer and the Chili-Music Fest.

SITV takes place on October 4th, in Seymour from 12-4:30pm. It’s a non-profit organization, and all of the money raised goes out to local non-profit groups. The chili contest is registered with the ICS. It is close to 90 breweries and has a chili contest, 2 stages and 6 bands.

The mission of  Seymour Tradition, Inc. is to provide the young ladies of Seymour with an extraordinary experience on and off the field. The goals are to develop fast pitch softball players that will compete at a high level, while instilling important life skills such as teamwork, leadership, competitiveness, and discipline within a structured, challenging, fun and rewarding environment. Seymour Tradition owns and runs Smoke In The Valley.

There will also be a Concert for a Cause Friday night October 3rd in Seymour with food trucks and 3 bands, including Mohegan Sun All-Stars Headline.

Competition Style Chili Recipe:

3 lbs. ground or cubed beef (chuck)
1 cup onion
5 cloves garlic
2 jalapeno peppers
1 can chicken broth or homemade
10 Tbls Chili Powder
1 Tbls Cumin
1 Tbl New Mexican Powder
1 can Tomato Sauce
Salt to taste

Directions:
Saute meat and onions and in Wesson Oil
Add to chicken broth
Add 1/2 you dry spices
– Simmer 1 hour

Add…
1 can tomato sauce
Add remain dry spices
chili peppers
chili powders and cumin

Simmer 1 hour

Salt to taste
