WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– Former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords will visit the state Thursday in an effort to prevent gun violence.

The visit comes during national Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Giffords plans to meet with state politicians to talk about the need for laws to protect women and families.

Giffords has been a staunch gun control advocate since surviving a deadly shooting in 2011.

The meeting is scheduled for noon in West Hartford.
