New London, Conn (WTNH)– Many roaming around downtown New London Wednesday night are wearing a Fall Food Stroll button which is their ticket to trying the many tastes of the city.
From the new Thai cafe, Lazy Lizard, to some of the old favorites in downtown New London, about 47 restaurants, shops, and galleries will showcase their specialties.
“Twenty-eight restaurants in a 24-block radius at least, so just in our downtown alone we have a plethora of restaurants so it’s one of our greatest strengths,” said Annah Perch the executive director of New London Main Street, which organized the event.
Mary Ellen Michalowski has been to all of the food strolls, Spring and Fall.
“Each year it gets more and more people and the restaurant people get more excited about it, so each year it seems to grow a little bit more,” said Michalowski.
Among those adding to the growing number of restaurants is Berry’s Ice Cream & Candy Bar, which features a pumpkin pie milkshake for any of the button wearers who come in.
We asked co-owner Laura Beckham, “Are you going to have enough ice cream for everyone who comes through tonight?”
“We are,” said Beckham. “Wildowsky’s Dairy has provided us a ton of ice cream.”
The co-owner of Berry’s is Teresa Berry of the Teresa and Shawn Wake Up show, but it’s this partner doing all the talking today. They’ll be selling this ice cream through December.
“I think food stroll reaches hundreds of people that wouldn’t maybe make it down to New London this time of year, so it allows all the local businesses to feature and showcase their specialty items,” said Beckham.
Merchants hope those who come in for a taste will come back later for more.
