Man posing as water company worker gets into area homes

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)  — The Metropolitan District Commission is advising customers to be cautious of an individual potentially posing as a water company employee and entering homes.

The most recent case was this Wednesday in Wethersfield. A man came  through an open screen door without knocking. The homeowner discovered his presence as he proceeded to “check” pipes under the kitchen sink, and check both water pipes and the toilet in the bathroom. He told her he worked with the water company.

The MDC is reminding people to lock their doors if they’re home, and make sure to ask for identification from people before allowing them inside. And if they can’t produce ID, don’t let them in.

If someone comes to your door claiming to be from the water company and you do not have a previously scheduled appointment, do not allow access to your home until calling the MDC Command Center at 860-278-7850 ext 3600 to verify their identity.
