New Haven Police search for shooter

New Haven, Conn (WTNH) – New Haven Police are asking the public for help in finding a wanted man.

On October 9th, officers responded to gunfire on Norton Street and witnessed a group of people involved. Police pursued 29-year-old Joseph Henry “James” Newton, who fired shots at a detective. The detective returned fire. Neither were wounded, and Newtown was able to get away.

There is a warrant for Newton’s arrest on multiple charges, including attempt to commit assault, and attempt to commit assault on a police officer. New Haven PD says that Newton should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call New Haven Police at 203-946-6304.
